What is Micropigmentation/ Cosmetic Tattooing?
Micropigmentation or cosmetic tattooing describes the method of implanting ink/ pigment into the upper dermal layer of the skin using a tattoo machine and tattoo needles.
Micropigmentation commonly refers to the traditional tattoo method, whereby, a needle encased in a cartridge is placed into a pen-like machine that is powered by a motor. The needle is dipped into the ink and the needle moves quickly in & out of the cartridge implanting tiny dots with each puncture into the upper dermal layer as it deposits the pigment into your skin.
Brows created using a tattoo machine is considered "digital tattoo brows" (commonly referred to as 'nano brows') and is ideal for clients with dry/ normal skin. The combination of penetration depth & the various needle gauges and formations available, micropigmentation method is used when the goal of the client is to have longer lasting results. Digital brows are especially beneficial for those clients who have combination/ oily skin-- who would normally have unfavourable results from microblading.
At Studio Kollectiv, all of the tattoo services we offer are tailored to suit your skin type and lifestyle. At the beginning of each appointment, a thorough consultation is included as part of the process to determine which method will give you the best outcome for the look that you're hoping to achieve. For clients with little to no hair, or clients with clusters of hair growth, we often combine both hairstrokes & shading to give the brows greater realism.
Micropigmentation is also used to enhance the lash line or to create a permanent eyeliner look. Micropigmentation can also used to enhance lips-- whether it be adding a bit more colour to your lips, creating the illusion of a fuller lip, or having a defined lip liner that softly blends into your natural lip colour. GONE are the days of the horrible "dark" lip liner tattoos! A lip enhancement can give you the ultimate smudge-free lip colour, and still give you the ability to apply other lip colours on top, depending on your mood.
Not all clients are suitable candidates for micropigmentation. Please refer to the "Am I a Candidate for Micropigmentation" section of the website to determine if microblading is right for you.
